Mayfield rides to national victory at Hickstead!

Phoebe Toyne-Bridges, Ellie Walker and Millie Bresnahan showed what

Mayfield girls are made of when they rode to victory at the National Schools Junior Show Jumping Championships at Hickstead on Thursday 26 July.

The competition allows only three riders in a team, meaning that every score counts, and therefore that every rider is under intense pressure! Mayfield's riders were one of ten teams to qualify for the jump off, which was held in the Hickstead International Arena, used by many Olympic riders during the Royal International Horse Show only the week before. Despite the pressure and the grand scale of the event, all three girls jumped stylish rounds to produce an emphatic win, and to take the title most convincingly.

...IT IS A MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT FOR OUR RIDERS TO BE SO SUCCESSFUL HERE.

Jill Barker, Director of Riding, commented, "This is one of the most significant Schools championships in the country, so it is a massive achievement for our riders to be so successful here. This team won the National Schools Winter Novice Championships at Addington last year so they have had some experience of riding under pressure, but this was a whole new level, and I am immensely proud of how well they coped. There is no doubt that hard work and team training has played a large part in their success, but it is due, in no small part, to the team spirit throughout the whole squad and how well they support each other. The whole squad should be very proud."
