Year 7 trip to see 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

T

radition has it that Year 7 is taken by the English Department to London to

partake of a Shakespeare themed day as a conclusion to their summer study of a Shakespeare play. This year, they got up bright and early to visit The Globe theatre for a tour and taste of the Elizabethan theatre.

We were lucky enough to witness a (rather bawdy) song in rehearsal of 'The Taming of the Shrew' which is currently being performed. This was pleasingly in authentic Elizabethan-style costumes. We then trundled across the river to Regent's Park and braved the rain to watch a contemporary adaptation of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Chelsea Henshaw commented "When I first saw the set, I thought our teacher had brought us to the wrong play! Director, Matthew Dunster, created a surprising and constantly entertaining modernisation of the play." According to Amanda McHugh, "The sets were outstanding, especially the transition between the caravan camp and the woods. They had to make it brief...there was a mobile home at the back, which quite literally unfolded. It, with smoke, revealed a small green bank with many flowers on it."

Despite some blustery showers and a long journey home, it was a very enjoyable and enriching day. Giving thoughtful reviews about the merits of the play's production, and tucking into Mr Spicer's bag of packed tea, our Year 7 showed themselves to be good sports in bad weather, as well as budding theatre critics.

Diamond Jubilee Fashion Show and Garden Party

A big thank you to everyone

who attended a cool and windy Fashion Show on

Saturday 23 June! The Year 7 & 8 girls worked very hard selling cupcakes and drinks, before and during the show, raising £250 for our charity ‘Action for Children’.

The Flute Ensemble played beautifully while guests found their seats before the show and during the interval - the girls and Miss Lisa Barrett are to be commended. The Maypole dancers provided great entertainment during the interval, and I hope they all enjoyed learning how to do it.

All the girls looked wonderful in their gorgeous creations, bravely walking the catwalk in windy conditions and high heels!

I would like to thank all the Sixth Formers for their kind help - so much could not have been achieved without them. Finally, my sincere thanks go to Mrs Inge Holder and Miss Hannah Cobb, who have worked tirelessly for months to ensure that the Fashion Show was such a huge success.
