Awards season may be over and the Queen may still be nursing
a hangover from her Royal Jubilee, but don’t put away that formal wear or headpieces quite yet. On Saturday, September 8, Shanti OC will be benefiting from the Top Hats & Tiaras party thrown by a generous Orange County couple committed to the mission of Shanti OC. Sarah Kasman, Shanti OC’s Executive Director, describes orga-
nizers Pol and Andy Sandro-Yepes as “An incredibly valued and generous couple who just want to make a difference in the HIV/ AIDS world and support the community where they live.” The couple came to a Shanti OC fundraiser three years ago and
envisioned a way they could help the small agency by involving their large social and professional circles and opening their beau- tiful home for events. “Top Hats & Tiaras” celebrates the glitz and glam while support-
ing the life affirming services of Shanti OC. Under the Sandro- Yepes’ design, the event—now in its third year—traditionally features a silent auction, a gourmet dinner, games and a contest for Best Top Hat and Best Tiara. As of printing, the evening’s en- tertainment has not been determined, but top-level performers have been promised. This year the event has been moved to early September instead of late November. The shift will allow the hosts to accommodate more guests and enable use of their beautiful garden while being less impacted by winter weather. If all goes according to plan, the event will welcome 120 people versus prior years head count of only 75.

Over the years the scope of the disease has changed, as well
as the way Shanti OC has provided services. As time has passed, the mission of the organization has shifted to create a safe place where people feel welcome and valued and are poised to remain at the forefront of the AIDS pandemic. Shanti OC aims to preserve the dignity and well-being of all of those living with HIV and AIDS by providing life-enhancing services, support, education and psychological care. Each year, Shanti helps more than 1,200 men, women and families in Orange County infected or affected by HIV disease and are proud that 87 percent of every dollar raised goes directly to programs and services.
