With its myriad of trails that twist along shorelines, snake through forest and skim lakeside draws, BC’s aptly named Sunshine Coast promises to sizzle with summer adventure of the two-footed variety. Not to mention the two- and four-wheeled sort. Take the Suncoaster Trail for example; this favoured stretch spans some 37 kilometres (23 miles) from Earls Cove down to seaside Halfmoon Bay — a pretty pathway that welcomes hikers, bikers, horseback riders and, in designated areas, ATVs. Veer off the beaten path at any number of exit points and your options will be varied: secluded lakes and forested and mountain- backed expanses will be cause for pause, while roadside grills dishing homespun menus will fuel the fire. Come nightfall, you can pitch a tent for lakeside camping or overnight in luxury at a nearby resort. Should you crave even more challenging track, the

revered Sunshine Coast Trail is a haven for hard-core backpackers and the like. Established in 1999, this well-

loved trail sets out from Saltery Bay, stretching 180 kilometres (112 miles) to the furthest reaches of the Sunshine Coast at Desolation Sound. Tis day- or multi- day hike is primed for packers, and may just inspire frequent stops with its host of hut-to-hut hiking, walk-in campsites and wharfs which will entice you with seaside swims. A refreshing splash is sure to have you back on your feet in no time.
