University Feedback; A Message To Parents And Students

VILLIERS has an exemplary track record in running courses and events for 6th

Competition for selection

Apart from having fun and socializing with their peers, these opportunities can also help them to gain entry to university; as it shows them to be proactive students who work hard to better themselves. This could be the difference between getting the university place they desire, or settling for their second choices, or worse, in not being offered a place at all.

These courses are extremely limited in numbers; so it is a fantastic achievement to be accepted after going through a competitive selection process. It is only the best who are chosen and they should be immensely proud of themselves for getting this far.

Future students’ chances at stake

Therefore you will agree that participation is mandatory, and dropping out at the last minute is not an option, without good reason. Not only does this show Villiers in a very bad light; potentially reducing the chances of future students from Villiers in being presented with these opportunities, but worse, it denies students from elsewhere a chance to better themselves.

Consideration for others

Consider the disappointment of those who failed to be accepted onto a summer school course, only to find out later that there were empty places.

This year, universities are reporting that many of our 6th

form students, having

successfully applied for courses are failing to attend, or have partially attended, with little or no reasonable explanation as to why, and with little consideration for the amount of time and effort made by both Villiers and the university personnel in organising these events.

This is completely unacceptable and selfish on many levels. If your child has been accepted onto a course, please make sure they attend every day and on time.

A Credit To Our School – The 10:10 Team

IT WAS a heart-warming moment to see the delight in the faces of the ten Year 10 students who have worked so hard on the AccessHE pilot project ‘10:10’, on seeing our new Headteacher Mr Iafrate arriving at Senate House on Monday evening 2nd

July.

He came especially to see their presentations and to introduce himself personally in recognition of their achievements and hard work and to meet the parents who were able to attend.

The day comprised of talks from many UK wide university representatives who gave their time to this outstanding group of students, and it concluded with sadly, only enough time for one of the groups to give their presentation on what they have learned about preparing for university, choosing A levels and degree courses, and the all-important UCAS application process.

Well done once again to Vishnuga Raveendran, Anika Gaind, Gina Sajith, Amaani Ahmed, Shirwa Farah, Farhan Chatha, Haqeeqat Gurm, Aqeel Sadiq and Nima Kazempour whose commitment and enthusiasm has been outstanding throughout the process.

Further notice to parents and new parents

If you know that your child cannot come to school for any reason, then please telephone Linda Fawkes the school’s attendance officer, on: 0208 813 8001 before 10.00am on each day your child is off school, leaving your child’s full name, and form group and your contact telephone number.

Regarding booking holidays (important)

In order for your child to achieve and succeed at school they must attend every single day, unless there is a valid reason (see above).

The law states that NO MORE than 5 school days (per year) can be missed due to an extended holiday. It is mandatory to abide by this law or else face potentially serious consequences as a result.

Finally...regarding mobile phones

In the classroom – mobile phones must be kept AT ALL TIMES in your child’s bag or blazer pocket, unless the teacher has asked them to use their phones for a reason associated with their learning.

Outside of the classroom – During recess or lunchtimes your child may use their phone’s functions or apps, but are forbidden to make/receive calls from them. If a staff member sees them talking on their phone, they will ask them to end the call, or risk the phone being confiscated immediately.

Confiscated phones will be stored securely, and the member of staff will make arrangements with you for its return. If in exceptional circumstances, it is to be retained for more than one day, the Headteacher’s PA will lock it away for safe-keeping until such time it is returned to you.
