Families keep calm and celebrate

BUNTING, beacons and red, white and bluewere the order of the day as families throughout Malling braved the unreliable weather to cele- brate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Event organisers kept calm and carried on de-

spite the chilly downpours which, as in the rest of the country, could not dampen everyone’s enthu- siasm. On Sunday, June 3, East Malling held the big-

gest party the village has ever seen, starting with a service at St James the Great Church, a parade to the playing fields and a fun-packed Jubilee Fayre. Next day, it wasWestMalling’s turn to celebrate

with a big street party in the High Street, which was closed for the occasion. Crowds dodged the showers to set up tables and chairs for a picnic in the street, accompanied by live music and chil- dren’s entertainers.
