An
issue of a music magazine about festivals isn’t exactly ground breaking stuff. I get that, and I
thought about having something else as the theme for July’s issue, but the fact of the matter is festivals like Latitude are still the best places to see shit tons of great bands. Tracking down Yeasayer, Polica, Daughter and Beth Jeans Houghton & Te Hooves Of Destiny on my own would have been nigh on impossible, but the beauty of living in a geographically exclusive part of England is that even small publications like ours can occasionally roll with the big boys. Does that mean Outline has become that friend who decided they wanted to hang out with older boys and left you sitting alone with your LEGO? Does it fuck! Sure, we flirt with the big bands, and it’s fun while it lasts, but we also understand that loads of incendiary music is being made right on our doorstep. Without the local scene we’d have got nowhere, so we might play away on occasion, but we’ll always drop by on the way home. Craig Hill is our local hero this month, and his plans for the Tilting Sky Festival should certainly have you all salivating at the prospect of some sweet eastern jams (that’s jams like MC5, not jams like apricot; if you want the latter you’re reading the wrong mag…) Anyway, it’s been an eventful few weeks as guest editor for Outline. Emma got pancreatitis, Kev had shoulder surgery, Izzy went to Spain, and at times it was literally just me holding everything together. But hey, I wanted a hands-on experience, and despite the pain the rest of the team suffered, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
