Skoda Citigo: a wee beauty with a big heart Motoring review with Ian Beasant, Business First motoring correspondent

The Skoda Citigo is a good looking car, and inside the room is …well amazing. This car can comfortably carry four adults and the space for the driver and front seat passenger is extremely generous with a driving position that is just spot on. The rear storage space is on two levels; take out the shelf and you are left with a deep good sized boot, a really smart design.

The three cylinder engine does sound a little raucous and it is an engine that loves to be revved making the car feel a lot livelier than the figures suggest.

The Citgo is great fun to drive as the engine and gearbox ratios are perfectly matched and the suspension is well designed to cope with pot holed strewn roads.

ne thing that seems in vogue at the moment is the idea of downsizing. We all love talking about moving to smaller homes, getting smaller cars and saving as much money as possible.

O

And the automotive industry has tapped into the idea, doing quite well with a focus on small efficient cars. The days of a big gas guzzler are gone. The new fashion is good‑looking, small,

urban cars which have all the comforts and looks of their bigger brothers.

The brand new Skoda Citigo is just that and I was pleasantly surprised just how much I liked it. The spec sheet with a 999cc three cylinder engine with a power output of 60 Bhp connected to a five‑speed manual gearbox and a 0.60 time of 14 seconds wasnʼt overly exciting. But the reality was something very different.

The Citgo is quite a tall car which allows good all round visibility so it is very easy to park and nice and airy inside. The Citigo when pushed on also handles really well with sharp steering and little or no body roll when cornering. Being made by Skoda the build quality is top notch and with fuel consumption of an average 68 miles per gallon, no road tax, a good looking, practical, comfortable, well equipped and enjoyable car to drive.

The Citigo is as good a small car as I have driven and with prices starting at £7630 I reckon we are going to see a lot of these on the roads. Itʼs a wee beauty with a big heart.
