80th British Columbia Highland Games and Scottish Festival, Coquitlam, BC, June 23, 2012 While encompassing all that is Scottish: from drumming to dancing; piping to pulverizing; the heavy


events are not only among one of the popular draws to this event, but also the oldest contested sports in the world: including a series of nine feats of strength events, performed over the course of one to two days.


Many of the events are derived from the Scottish military weapons of war, while others came directly from every day life. Te modern day Olympics are directly descended from the Scottish Games, not from the ancient Greek tradition.
