The Podium Awards are a prestigious one-off celebration recognising the vital role colleges and universities across the UK have played in delivering the London 2012 Games.
The college in Hornchurch, Essex, is in the running to receive either a Gold of Silver award in the Inspirational Skills Project category.
The project – undertaken by students on an HND Media Production course at Havering College - involved the production of two commercial-style films for the Olympic Delivery Authority.
The students are holding a dinner in honour of their culinary hero at which they will recreate some of his legendary signature dishes.
The Fine Dining Anton Mosimann Experience will be held at the Jubilee Restaurant – an open-to –the-public facility based at the Havering College Quarles Campus in Tring Gardens, Harold Hill.
Students on the Level 1 and Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery courses are inviting Mosimann senior and his son Mark along to the four course gourmet feast on Tuesday, May 29. The college is making a limited number of tickets available to the public at £12.15 per head.
The students came up with the idea after spending a day at Mosimann’s - a private London dining club owned and run by the celebrity chef.
Mosimann had offered the tour after seeing Havering College catering students in action at WorldSkills at London’s ExCel last year. Their showcase event of a Pasta Show involved demonstrating fresh pasta dishes to thousands of visitors.
Havering College curriculum manager of Hospitality and Catering Nick Gunyon said: “Anton Mosimann spoke to our team at WorldSkills and told us he was impressed. It was fantastic to take up his offer of visiting his restaurant in Belgravia. The students had an amazing day and were shown around

by Mark Mosimann. They were in awe of the place and it really has inspired them.
“The students were so excited when they came out and have decided to open the Jubilee Restaurant for a one- off Mosimann night. They will recreate some of his signature dishes and invite Anton and Mark Mosimann.”
HAVERING COLLEGE STEPS UP TO THE PODIUM FOR OLYMPIC AWARD
Havering College of Further and Higher Education has been shortlisted to receive a Podium Award for an Olympic student film project focusing on apprenticeships.
The DVDs are available as a resource for use in schools and colleges to increase the uptake of apprenticeships in landscaping and horticultural and to attract more women into the construction industry.
The students worked to briefs set by the ODA and commercial contractors engaged in the construction of the Olympic Park. One set of filmmakers received mentoring from BBC Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins, who acted as presenter on the horticultural film.
Both films can be seen on the Havering College website at
