HAVERING COLLEGE Students Showcase Designs At Alternative Fashion Week

he next generation of up-and- coming designers from Havering College of Further and Higher Education have showcased their


creations at a major catwalk event.


Five final year BA Fashion degree students from the college in Hornchurch, Essex, took their cutting edge collections to London’s Alternative Fashion Week.


Press photographers from across the globe descended on the six day event at Spitalfields Traders Market in East London.


The bi-annual show is regarded by the fashion industry as a hotbed for raw, undiscovered designer talent


Havering College was chosen from hundreds of applications for one of 85 catwalk show slots.


The Havering College students, who kicked off day two of the lunchtime catwalk shows with their Amalgamated Talent 2012 Collection, were: Loreen Anderson, 25, from Romford; Samantha Bruty, 21, from Romford; Heena Meghani, 22, from Manor Park; Sameah Zahid 22, from Clapton and Yan Zhang, 21, from East Ham.


Havering College fashion Head of Fashion Marie Loney said:


“Alternative Fashion Week is a truly international event and we are very proud our BA Fashion degree students were given the opportunity to be a part of it. It gave the students a real buzz to

Leading fashion and lifestyle stylist Samson Soboye was among the industry guests.


He said:


“The collection from Havering College was really innovative. The students pushed the boundaries. They don’t just follow trends – they form the trends.”

Catering students at Havering College of Further and Higher Education are to pay homage to chef Anton Mosimann after being inspired by a visit to his London restaurant.


Designers from all over the UK and other parts of the world come to Alternative Fashion Week to showcase their creativity to a mass audience.
