A Place to Find Wellness and Bliss by Debra Novak

of restful and rejuvenating spa services between two yoga classes can be a deli- cious treat, and it’s a specialty of Joyful Yoga and Ayurveda Spa,

in Bonita Springs. Clients can choose from a selection of yoga classes and enjoy various styles of massage, skin care, reflexology, facials, Reiki/energy healing and ayurvedic services in the serenity of a luxurious environment dedicated to wellness.

Several specialties on the menu include a consultation with ayurvedic practitioner Jacqueline Chiodo. “Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old ho- listic sister science to yoga, is based on the five elements: space, air, fire, water and earth,” says Chiodo, who determines an individual’s mind/ body constitution, or dominant dosha (vata, pitta or kapha), and guides them toward improved health with the best food choices, lifestyle routines, breath- work and yoga practices.

Ayurvedic spa services such as

Shirodhara, which honors the body as a sacred temple and a vehicle for the di- vine spirit within, can be customized to balance specific doshas. Shirodhara in- volves the flow of warm, aromatic oils on the forehead at a point just above and between the eyebrows. Flowing

over the scalp and through the hair, the sooth- ing oil creates a blissful sensa- tion, stimulating the endocrine system, the pitu- itary and pineal glands and plea- sure neurotrans- mitters in the

brain. Swedana Steam Therapy, good for all body types, raises body tempera- ture, enhances circulation, oxygenates tissues and facilitates the release of toxins through the skin.

“We offer more than 30 yoga classes a week,” advises spa Director Emily Chiodo, who is also in charge of the registered yoga teacher training program, which meets Yoga Alliance’s 200- and 500-hour standards. “Our five massage therapists offer eight popular therapies, and three es- theticians are proficient with numerous facials, peels, energy therapies, waxing, detoxification, electrolysis, permanent make-up and more,” says Tess Chiodo, who has practiced yoga for 42 years. She is also certified to teach Primordial Sound Meditation, a powerful technique rooted in the Vedic tradition of India.
