Earl L. Brewer April 14, 1935 - April 22, 2012

Earl L. Brewer, 77, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away on the water off Boothbay Har- bor doing what he loved to do, lobster fish, on April 22.

Earl was born April 14, 1935 in Boothbay Harbor, the son of Harold and Ruth Sherman Brewer, and attended Boothbay Harbor schools.

After leaving school, he fished with his father and brothers in the area and he appren- ticed as a machinist before moving to Florida. Deciding that it was time to return to the water, he moved his family back to Boothbay Harbor and began lobster fishing. In 1964 he had his present boat built, the Sea Foam, and from it set and pulled many a trap over the years. When he headed out pull traps, his family always knew he was underway, as his boat was always the loudest in the harbor. Over the course of his career, he worked with youth, taking the opportunity to mentor them and show them what hard work was. Many of those youth were glad to return to school, but the relationship that developed on the boat kept those youth returning to the Sea Foam as friends.

When not on the water, Earl was known to cut his own firewood and trap stock, tend his animals that he raised, and chase his own bait fish. He also enjoyed going up to camp on Scraggly Lake to fish, and to his hunting camp in Whitefield.

He is predeceased by a brother, George F. Brewer; and sister, Eldena Lowell. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy E. Parmenter Brewer of Boothbay Harbor; sons, A. Richard Brewer and significant other Pamela of Edgecomb, Earl L. “Scott” Brewer Jr. and wife Lori of Boothbay, and Russell Brewer and wife Heather of Boothbay Har-
