Cacklefest, Camaro’s and More 2012 Carlisle GM Nationals Show- case Generations of Cars and Automotive History
CARLISLE, PA – General Motors
brings more than a century of au- tomotive experience to Carlisle as part of the GM Nationals, June 22- 24 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. The event serves as the official Ca- maros at Carlisle home as well as THE place for Bow-Tie enthusiasts to gather to walk the grounds for a look at GM’s past, present and fu- ture.
The 2012 event will feature one- of-a-kind displays and historic au- tomobiles while embracing current trends out of the motor city of De- troit.
History will be on display in
the form of an early 1900’s Carter- car. Cartercars were produced from 1900-1915 in Michigan by Byron J. Carter and his Motorcar (later Cart- ercar) Company. In 1909, Cartercar was bought by GM, thus making it the perfect attraction for an all-GM event.
Along with the Cartercar will be a
racing machine unlike many others. The East Coast Electric Drag Rac- ing Series along with Team Haiyine present a 2012 Camaro that is as green as Chevy’s Volt. This green machine is an electric racer that is fast, so fast in fact that it’s been clocked 127.75 M.P.H. in the quar-
Camaros at Carlisle will not be just a theme; it will be a popular feature.
Each year, hundreds of
GM’s popular muscle car roll on grounds to strut their stuff, and with cars parked by make, the Camaro section is always a frequently visited portion
of the showfield. Along
with the Camaro contingent will be various reunions, special displays and awards. The grounds will showcase a 1958-1964 Big Block gathering of 348 and 409 engines, while Building G just outside of Gate1 will once again host the Solid Lifter Showroom, a display of top of the line, high-performance domestic muscle cars from the peak days of drag racing.

ter mile and they’re looking to better that by taking a pass on the nearby Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way.
In stark contrast to this electric
racer, a popular and very fuel-pow- ered drag car returns for 2012 as Bruce Larson brings back his USA- 1 Camaro and Corvette as part of Cacklefest. Cacklefest allows show goers to experience the warm up process for the car in an up close and personal manner. Last year, a contest was run, allowing four at- tendees to sit in the seat during the process.
In 2012 the contest will
also return with at least 8 people, maybe more, winning a spot in the car.
“We are very excited about the
2012 edition of the GM Nationals,” noted Event Manager Rick Markko. “We’ll have a little bit of everything that GM produced during their first 100 years. Onsite will be a 1900’s Cartercar all the way up to the 5th generation Camaro featured as part of our Camaros at Carlisle.” Markko added that “our race coverage will include two of Bruce Larson’s ni- tro fuel Funny Cars and the latest rage to reach NHRA drag racing, the electric Camaro drag car. Don’t miss this year’s show as it’s sure to be the event of the year for loyal fans of the General.”
