She hasn’t forgotten who started all this slaps us, shakes the boat, spits in my eye drags at my buttonless jacket, screams “why did you leave me? Do you care if I die?”
We haul our spoils - crabs, lobsters, conger eel The winch whines forgiveness weed garlanding the landed creels boots braced against the bullying swell.
“You always take, you never give – “ Raw wind ranting in my ear “why on this sea should I let you live?” forcing the stench of bait down my goose throat.
We have snatched what the sea made shell biscuit sand and bruised blue, the colours of prehistory soon to be flushed red by the boiler’s breath.
Running for home, a gull posse in pursuit, tongues sharp with the taste of blood and salt.

This month’s Square Top 5 websites: 1.
Squaremag.net – yes, finally, there is a website. Or at least, there should be. 2.
Pure-poetry.co.uk – not checked this one out yet? Described as a “palace of poetry” 3.
boomslangpoetry.co.uk – Kate Noakes’s excellent site. 4.
lloydrobson.com – Lloyd Robson’s frankly mediocre site – get polishing, Robson! 5.
poetcasting.co.uk - here, you can listen to poets read their stuff, including Square writer, David Foster Morgan. Cool (or should I say “Square”?).
