Lo-Q, the Twyford-based technology provider to operators of theme parks, water parks and other leisure attractions, proved to be one of the most successful companies in the Thames Valley when it came to share price rises during March.
The group designs, installs and operates virtual queuing systems that allow guests to make reservations for rides and shows without waiting in a physical queue.
Its Q-bot products are used by four of the 10 largest theme park operators globally. A new contract with Six Flags underpins revenues for six years, while the newer Q-band is opening up new markets including water parks – deals with Splish Splash and Zoombezi Bay highlighting the interest beyond Six Flags.
Star performance of the month was by Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a company headquartered at Walton-on-Thames that for 25 years has been teaching children and teenagers to sing, dance and act… “not only to perform on stage and beyond, but more importantly to perform better in life”.
During the month STA accepted a recommended cash offer from Lifeskills Education to buy the remaining shares it did not already hold, helping to lift the share price 63%. The offer valued the entire issue at £6.5 million.
International Consolidated Airlines, the Heathrow-based group, topped the large company section after gaining regulatory approval from the European Commission to purchase bmi from Lufthansa for £172.5m.

Bucks New University secures new contracts in healthcare education
During a period of significant success, Bucks New University has been awarded two new contracts to provide nursing education across London, and to Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire.
From September, Bucks New University will become the largest provider of adult nurse education across London following NHS London’s announcement of its higher education training allocations for the next three years. Bucks will train 320 new students in adult nursing per annum from 2012-13, an increase of 23% on its present allocation, following a national competitive tender with other leading education providers in England.
In addition, Bucks New University has been appointed by NHS South of England to provide children's integrated nursing education programmes from September, following NHS South of England’s move to tender for pre-registration children's nursing programmes which offer students the specific option to progress to a specialist community public health nursing programme, or neonatal nursing.
Therefore future students embarking on the new children’s nursing courses at Bucks will now have the additional opportunity to gain specialist training in children's nursing, health visiting or neonatal nursing, all of which are workforces currently being developed and expanded upon across Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire.
Prof David Sines CBE, Bucks New University’s pro vice chancellor and executive dean: society & health, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the news of both our adult nursing and children’s nursing student allocations.
“NHS London’s focus is to ensure the highest possible standards of nurse education, and it is testament to the stringent quality of the training that our teaching staff provide that we have been recognised and awarded the highest number of students to train in the capital.
“Likewise the NHS South of England contract presents a very exciting and unique opportunity for the University to work in partnership with Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire NHS Trusts to deliver integrated education to enhance the workforce for children in the local area.
“The excellent reputation of the ‘Bucks nurse’ continues to be upheld, and when our students leave us they do so having experienced a level of education which equips them to provide the best possible care to patients when they move into the world of work.”
