Entries now open for 2012 Awards

The challenge is on to find the brightest, the best and the simply brilliant in the Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards 2012. Entries are now open for this year’s event and, with two fantastic new categories giving entrants even more choice, it promises to be a night to remember

Big name sponsors Deloitte, Pitmans, RBS and James Cowper are once more supporting the awards and joining them for the first time this year are Grundon Waste Management and leading technology specialists Pulsant.

Awards chairman David Murray said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have two new sponsors and two new awards, for excellence in the environment and technology sectors. Lined up alongside our existing categories, we now have a fantastic opportunity for Thames Valley businesses to show us what they are made of.

“We’re looking for organisations who have excelled in their chosen field, whose determination to succeed is the strength that the region is built on, and who can show our judges that they have delivered in the face of some of the toughest trading conditions that we can remember.”

The winners will be announced at a glittering awards evening on November 15 at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Madejski Stadium, Reading, attended by around 300 of the region’s business leaders and top companies.

New awards

The Best Use of Technology category is sponsored by leading technology expert Pulsant.

Designed to identify those organisations which have used skills and innovation to drive ground- breaking new software, solutions, systems, hardware or processes, the award is open to businesses within the IT, telecoms and science- based technology sectors.

Rob Davies, Pulsant’s sales and marketing director, said: “Innovation in technology is at the core of our business and every day we see for ourselves the benefits which true innovation can deliver.

“We’re looking for organisations which aren’t afraid to do things differently, who are developing and using the latest technologies to move their business up to the next level and beyond. We want entrants to provide strong evidence of the ways in which technology has benefited their organisation; be it through improved efficiencies and processes, driving increased sales, opening up new markets or improving day-to-day activity for employees and customers.”

The second new award is The Green Progress Award, sponsored by Grundon Waste Management, specialists in waste removal, disposal, hazardous waste management and recycling.

It will be presented to the company that has, in the opinion of the judges, shown the most progress in 'green' practices over the past year and there will be a key emphasis on sustainability.

Deputy chairman, Neil Grundon, said: “All too often we hear how the environment and business are incompatible. Grundon Waste Management wants to showcase those business success stories that demonstrate care for the environment alongside keen business acumen.”

Established awards

The Business Management Team Award, sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland, is looking for top teams who show great leadership skills, combined with an innovative approach and forward-thinking.

RBS said: “We are dedicated to helping the Thames Valley business community grow and succeed. Our relationship teams across the

region pride themselves on understanding local and wider sector issues through supporting competitiveness and the achievement of excellence.

“We are delighted to continue our support for the Thames Valley Business Awards by sponsoring the Business Management Team Award and openly encourage businesses to actively put themselves forward in recognition of their achievements in this area.”

The Dynamic Business Award, sponsored by Deloitte, rewards those companies who have demonstrated creativity, innovation and the ability to adapt.

Ian Barton, head of Corporate Finance Advisory in the Thames Valley, said: “We are delighted to once again be sponsoring the Dynamic Business Award. We are proud to have been involved with the Awards for a number of years and are continually inspired by the range and quality of businesses which we talk to during our selection process. We expect to be similarly impressed by those who come forward this year.

“As in previous years, our winner will demonstrate their acumen and clever guidance of their business through what have been challenging
