to Harrington where her owner will finish her; and a Calvin 34 hull and top will be shipped to her owner to be finish. In January they have a 46 Wesmac to finish off. All of these hulls are being finished out as lobster boats.
H & H Marine in Steuben has remained mostly busy due to repair work.
An Osmond 40 was in last winter and had 4½ feet added to her stern. This year she returned and they added new rails, painted her bottom and did some cosmetic work. She has been completed and is back home at Vinalhaven.
Another Osmond 40 from Vinalhaven was in and she had 4½ feet added to her stern. They also added stainless steel guards and painted the hull. She has been completed and shipped out.
A third Osmond 40 was in and she had 3½ feet added to her stern. This project has also been completed and is gone. An Osmond 38 is in the shop and she is having two feet added to her stern, along with new decks, moving the fuel tanks and adding a bulkhead in the fish hold. She will be done later this spring.
A 42-foot Dixon is in to be re-powered. They also have a Novi in to be repaired after she suffered fire damage. They are re- placing the winter back and a portion of the top with fiberglass panels.
As for new boats an Osmand 40 hull and top has been ordered by a fisherman from Southwest Harbor. She will be finished off by her owner.
News from Away
Gloucester Marine Railway in Gloucester, MA has plenty going on. They continue to work on the Tea Party
boats, BEAVER and ELEANOR. There is a rumour that the third boat might be built. Up on the railway is the THOMAS LAIGHTON, which is used as the ferry out to the Isle of Shoals from Portsmouth, NH. She is in for her regular maintenance as well as some piping, cutlass bearings and propeller work.
COLUMBIA POINT, operated by U- Mass Boston, is up on the hard. She is in for her regular maintenance as well as prop work and a U. S. Coast Guard inspection. Also up for annual maintenance and some minor steelwork is the fishing vessel LILY JEAN. Soon to be hauled is the fishing vessel LISA ANN II, which will be in for just annual maintenance.
It is always interesting to see what ves- sels have been hauled or are tied to the dock at this yard. Tied to the north dock is HIGH- LANDER SEA, which arrived last fall for the winter. She was designed by W. Starling Burgess on the lines of a Gloucester fishing schooner and built by J. F. James & Sons of Essex, MA in 1924. She was launched as PILOT and serve 47 years as a pilot boat for the Port of Boston. About 40 years ago she was purchased to do a circumnavigation, but only got as far as the Fiji Islands and in 1976 she was sold. She was renamed STAR PILOT and was used as a school vessel. In 1998 she was sold again. She was then sailed to Nova Scotia where she was given a major overhaul, renamed HIGHLANDER SEA, and used as a training vessel. Ten years ago she was pur- chased by her current owners and was given another major refit two years later. During this period she hailed out of Port Huron, MI. She is currently for sale through Northrop & Johnson for $2 mil-
This Friendship sloop is at Gloucester Marine Railway in Gloucester, MA. She was built by Jim Rockefeller of Camden back in the 1960s.
