pril may be the cruellest month but May is the busiest. I say it every month


but this is ridiculous. Te following list features some amazing and diverse bands from Norwich, and some hella exciting acts from elsewhere. I’m sorry that I can’t say much about them, but there just ain’t enough room on the page!


Open the month with a triple whammy? On the 1st, All Sorted Presents – Matthew P + Empire + Daisy Vaughan + WCCat Epic Studios.On the 2nd Blood Red Shoes play at Te Waterfront. And on the 3rd,TweeOFF! Presents Te Rapture + Chew Lips atNorwich Arts Centre.SCHWING!


Te 6th is the first Olympians show of the month, and it is part of their tour withKutosis. Also playing the show in Te Playhouse Bar is Popop who is also in DODOD and makes electronic sounds! It’s also FREEE!


OnFriday 11th(and this is big), a new programme for the 2012 Norfolk and Norwich Festival starts, featuring exciting international bands. With Norwich Arts Centre as the hub venue and events popping up elsewhere, plus an installation in Fusion at the Forum, Speed Up! will be fast, loud, energetic and fun. Te opening night featuresTe Intergalactic Republic of Kongo + Hot Panda(at NAC)


Dry the River are one of my favourite bands at the minute, and they are brought here by wombatwombat to play a show at NACon the 12th with Cut Ribbons + Deers.


Also on the 12th, Te Twilight Sad play Te Waterfront Studio.


TweeOFF! start their ‘@ SPEED UP!’ 46 /May 2012/ outlineonline.co.uk


collection onSunday 13th when they present Yacht (Portland) + Concrete Knives (France) at NAC.


Also on the 13th,Wretch 32 plays UEA.


Tere is another SPEED UP! night on the 14th atNACwith Esmerinewho feature a member of GY!BE andEric Chenaux.


Te local, lovely and brilliantSennen are back at NAConWednesday 16th May!


Because May is JAMMED, there are bound to be clashes – Friday 18th has got a few;Te Tilting Sky Presents Chasing Tigers + Affairs + Founders + Te Actor & the Peachat Te Waterfront Studio. Also, Norwich bandHoly State play a homecoming show on the18th which will also sadly be their last. Holy State Presents ‘Electric Picture Palace’ is also part of NAC SPEED UP! and support comes from Te Tenebrous Liar.


Tree amazing gigs are all taking place on Saturday 19th, so choose wisely. Te Kabeedies + Cielo + Te B Goodes play at Open.BBC Music Video Festival Presents Kill It Kid + Magoo + Twin Brother at Epic Studios (this one is being filmed!). And finally, Nathan Fakeheadlines NACas part of SPEED UP! Supporting him is the BRILLIANT Luke Abbottand Dan Tombs will be VJ!


Tis next one will be brilliant too! On the 22nd TweeOFF! PresentsDEATH GRIPS,which is also part of SPEED UP!


On the 23rd May Te Neutrinos preview ‘Te Butcher Of Common Sense’ atWestlegate House.


Another two awesome SPEED UP! (seriously!?) shows now: on the 24th – BK & Dad + Transept play at St. Lawrence’s Churchon St. Benedict’s Street. Ten the final tweeOFF!/SPEED UP! show on 25th is with Zun Zun Egui atNAC.And the closing party for the whole thing is on Saturday 26thwith Gangpol Und Mit, also at NAC.


On the 26th,Pocket Watch Promotions Presents Billy Lockett + Lee VannatCarnival.


Sargasso Triohaven’t played in Norwich for several months, but they are back at Te Bicycle Shop onWednesday 30th.


To finish off the month, have ANOTHER tweeOFF! show! OMG! Fixers + Mozart Parties + Olympians is at NACon31st.
