2012 FESTIVAL GUIDE

PRE-FESTIVAL PLAYLIST

01 ‘Holocene’ Bon Iver

12–15 July 2012 Henham Park nr Southwold, Suffolk LATITUDE FESTIVAL 2012 O

h May, why do you stand so rigidly ahead of June; June, why do you obstruct July, which remains so tantalisingly close? You’d be forgiven for wishing the next two months away, when the beacon of Latitude

Festival blazes brightly from your summer calendar. We enter May with already an arsenal of sublime talent, with the music headliners being announced as Bon Iver, currently breaking hearts with his second album, Guy Garvey’s musical bandits, Elbow and the modfather himself, Paul Weller. Tat’s us booked! Te big names keep coming in the comedy sector too, with Tim Minchin, Jack Dee and Rich Hall being just a few names to start stretching your laughing gear for. While you find that many festivals cast their nets to include poetry, theatre and other performance, it’s Latitude that has given the festival scene the fortitude to do it with the attention they give each stage’s line-up, from early doors, to the closing acts. Look further down the bill and your heart will skip a beat for the excitement that names like Alabama Shakes, Sharon Van Etten and SBTRKT on the music front; Frisky & Mannish representing comedy; Teatre Delicatessan for performance and the treasured ol’ Guilty Pleasures DJ set wrapping up proceedings. PRE-FESTIVAL PLAYLIST

01 ‘The Saint’ Orbital

19–22 July 2012 Mill Hill Field nr Huntingdon, Cambs SECRET GARDEN PARTY L

ess than three months after the first acts were announced for this year’s Secret Garden Party, the festival of unbridled merriment sold every one of its tickets, with three months build up still to go. It is the

perfect testament against the notion that Britain is OVER festivals – we’re not, we just save our bunce for the right ones. Devoid of sponsorship, with a yearly theme (this year’s being the intriguingly interpretable ‘Standing on Ceremony’), this is the 10th year the SGP will be welcoming thousands of Gardeners to the site, to leave inhibition at the gate, and reignite their imagination. Te festival is renowned for its weird and wonderful carnival atmosphere, but the enviable line-up provides a schedules backbone to hang your hat on; the mesmerising Lamb, Orbital and their musical legacy, the new sounds of young bands like Niki and the Dove, Ellen and the Escapades, the seasoned tones of KT Tunstall – there’s music to fortify perfect summer memories. Tis may seem like a cruel joke, telling you about the party of a lifetime when it’s already sold out, but this is your warning: when SGP2013 goes on sale, make sure your name’s at the top of the ticket list. For everything SGP, go to www.secretgardenparty.com
