Readington Community Theatre will present a revue of the songs of Irving Berlin “The Melody Lin- gers On” May 17-20 at the Polish American Citizens’ Club on Kline Boulevard in Whitehouse Station. The run will include evening per- formances at 8 on May 17, 18 and 19, and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on May 20. The cast includes 10 principals who play a variety of characters, and a singing-dancing chorus. The songs of Irving Berlin, an incomparable musical legacy, tell the story of the last American century. The revue is based on Mary Ellin Barrett’s extraordinary
book about her father, “Irving Ber- lin: A Daughter’s Memoir.” Included in the list of over 40 mu- sical numbers are such well-known favorites as: Blue Skies, God Bless America, White Christmas, Alex- ander’s Ragtime Band and There’s No Business Like Show Business. The continual flow of the revue, from one sequence into another, allows scenes to shift easily from the present into the past, and back again.
Tickets cost $12/Adult and $10/ Seniors & Students, and can be reserved by calling 908-507-6133. —Submitted by RC Theatre
Have you ever wondered what “lock stock and barrel” really means? Here is your chance to find out as the Readington Museums hosts gunsmith Harry Greenberger on May 6 as part of the Open House Sunday program. The demo will be held inside the Wade-Wyckoff Barn at the Bouman-Stickney Farmstead, 114 Dreahook Rd., from 1 to 4 p.m. With more than 30 years experi- ence in gunsmithing and colonial life, Greenberger will demonstrate the ins and outs of producing a fine quality weapon. During the eighteenth-century guns were pro- duced in great numbers in Europe and imported into the colonies. The guns were not made by a single per- son. In fact, much of the work was done in a piecemeal fashion with
parts being made using a cottage- industry approach. This enabled Europe to produce weapons faster and cheaper than they could be in the colonies. But one weapon that was produced here was the long rifle, which evolved from German hunting rifle, making them superior at taking down big game. Green- berger also will talk about life on the frontier during this family friendly event.
The program is free, but dona- tions will be happily accepted. Groups of six or more, call for a reservation. For more information or directions visit
