Natural Awakenings – Houston’s Healthy Living Magazine It’s more than a magazine, it’s a Lifestyle

or the most part, it’s the women who take the kids to the doctor, meet with the teachers, make sure the kids are eating healthy food, etc. They nag their men folk and kids about eating right and getting exercise, and drag their loved ones to the den- tist and/or doctor. But as Cindy L. Griffin, in her The Homeopath’s Corner, notes in Homeopathic Care for Caregivers, women, in general, are the last to take care of themselves. Hopefully, their significant other, their mothers, sisters, brothers, friends, their

grown children will care for them. Then again, maybe a woman can and should look after her own health. To inspire and encourage every woman to take care of herself (as well as those she loves), this month Natural Awakenings Magazine focus- es on Women’s Health. The Hormone Balancing Act Natural Strategies for Feeling Better by Kathleen

Barnes, gives us useful details about female hormones, and ways to avoid man- made estrogens, perimenopause and menopause. In his Medical Minute, Dr. Zbig- niew “Tony” Chmielewski addresses how estrogen contributes to healthy aging. This issue also deals with aging beautifully—a concern of both the sexes these

days. In Anti-Aging Skincare, Linda Sechrist explains how to turn back the clock with new treatments and breakthroughs. Since kids play a part in women’s aging, (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)

Beth Davis guides mothers in strategies dealing with colic to toddler meltdowns and adolescents in Mom-To-Mom Wisdom, Calming Advice for More ‘Good Days’ with Fretful Kids. Be sure to enjoy the second half of Diana E. Vargas’ interview with Qigong

Practitioner, Jeff Primack; and don’t miss Barbara Lynn Silberg’s interview with Guillermo Mendoza of Impact Coaching Solutions. In our newsbriefs, besides Lucia Gardens’ classes, movie time will be happen- ing at Green Planet Sanctuary, Tony Mills is back in town to share his expertise, the West Houston Theosophical Study Center is hosting a speaker on Intuitive Hand Analysis, and Chris Axelrad is speaking on visualization and meditation. Doug Keller will be conducting a two part series, Yoga as Therapy in Wimberley and Houston.

In addition, The Galveston Chamber of Commerce and UTMB Health are host-

ing The 5th Annual Women’s Conference, Celebrating Women, Mind, Body & Spirit in Galveston this month. The Texas Federation of the Theosophical Society in Amer- ica’s is holding their 77th Annual Convention in Dallas. There’s a bunch going on. But while it’s still cool enough to garden, bike, run, skate, surf, or hike, go to it. When it gets too hot–or wet—come back inside and rest a bit. Put your feet up, get a cup of water, tea or coffee, and finish reading May’s Natural Awakenings. You’ll learn how a woman’s body works and get some good advice. And using that newfound knowledge, consider taking care of your mother, sisters, girlfriends, daughters . . . maybe even yourself.
