Come and join in if you are 18 or under. Children as young as three have enjoyed taking part in recent years and continue to demand to come back! Those that want to get some race training and the opportunity to compete in the JBEW Regatta. Parents and guardians are required to volunteer to ensure a smooth running event and a safe environment. August 20, 1300 on Tuesday 21, 1400 on Wednesday 22, 1445 on Thursday 23, 1530 on Friday 24. FORMAT: Races are sailed over three separate courses in Chichester Harbour; there is one race per day with three results to count, with the exception of the Tera, Topper, Optimist and Slow handicap fleets which have nine shorter races, with six results to count (two races on the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, one race on Friday). CLASSES: Artemis 20, Finn, Flying 15, Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Merlin Rocket, Optimist, RS200, RS400, RS Elite, RS Feva, RS Tera, Solo, Topper, plus handicap fleets. Handicap racing normally based on Portsmouth Numbers but may be varied at discretion of race committee: Fast asymmetric handicap (899 and below) and foiling boats; Medium asymmetric handicap (900-1015); Fast handicap conventional (1035 and below); Medium handicap (1036-1210); Slow handicap (1211-1470). ENTRY FEES: £48 per boat for the week (£39 for singlehanded dinghies); £36 per boat per week (£27 for singlehanded dinghies) for youth helms (under 18 on August 20). Daily entries available. SOCIAL SCENE: A social is held at a different Chichester Harbour club every evening. Cowes Week is the world’s best-known sailing regatta with around 1,000 competing boats and 8,000 sailors. It has a huge amount to offer sailors and spectators, with an exciting racing schedule and packed entertainment programme. FORMAT: One round the cans race per day for each of 40 classes of open dayboats and yachts. CLASSES: Cruiser-racers racing under IRC are split into at least eight classes according to rating; Cruisers using the free Island Sailing club rating system; Sigma 33; Sigma 38; Contessa 32; First 40.7; Quarter Ton; MOCRA Multihulls; J/109; plus 16 classes of open dayboats, including a sportsboat class using IRC. ENTRY FEES: From £175 to £540 for eight days of racing assuming early bird entry. SPONSORS: Aberdeen Asset Management is the title sponsor of Cowes Week. SOCIAL SCENE: The festival atmosphere at the regatta is unique. Spectators can get among the race action by booking a place on a spectator boat. Bookings can be made via the website from June onwards.

COWES DINGHY WEEK July 30-August 3 Gurnard SC, Isle of Wight EVENT DETAILS: Magic Marine Cowes Dinghy week is a friendly but hotly contested regatta sailed in the waters of the western Solent, attracting around 150 entries from sailors of all ages, in a range of classes. FORMAT: One or two races per day for each class on a rota basis, with each race lasting between 45 minutes and two hours. CLASSES: Any dinghies with PY below 1400 are welcome. Separate starts for any class with eight or more entries, plus three handicap classes. The area is difficult for foilers! Class starts are envisaged for at least RS400s, Shadow cats and Lasers (all rigs). ENTRY FEES: £55 adults, £35 under 18 (late entry fees apply after July 3), visiting entries from the mainland are free. SPONSORS: Headline sponsor Magic Marine. SOCIAL SCENE: Bands and hot meals most nights including barn dance and BBQ. Prizegiving on Friday. Gurnard Green, beach and play area are right next to the club.
