BASSENTHWAITE WEEK August 4-12 Bassenthwaite SC, Lake District EVENT DETAILS: Nine days of competitive sailing and great social fun for all the family. FORMAT: 17 races, each with nine separate starts at three minute intervals for the designated classes. Mix of series and individual prize races. Two all-fleet pursuit races. Junior, ladies, 60 plus race. Olympic theme for some racing in 2012. Start times normally 1100 and 1430, but with later start on first day and earlier finish on final day. CLASSES: Flying 15, Laser, Enterprise, RS200, GP14, Fast handicap (PY 850-1000), Medium handicap (PY 1001-1125), Slow handicap (PY 1126-1200), Topper and Mirror. Class starts subject to change dependent upon entry levels. ENTRY FEES: Inclusive entry for 17 races: £94 crewed /£68 singlehanded if received by June 15 or £116/£83 until regatta starts. Weekend series £28/£20; midweek (nine races) £79/£55. Camping prices vary – see website for details. Book early to reserve caravan and camping pitches as, despite extensive grounds, these get taken up quickly. Early bookings receive significant discounts. One coastal race for A & B (cruisers) and Contessa 26. BURNHAM WEEK August 25-September 1 The Joint Clubs Committee runs Burnham week on behalf of the Royal Corinthian YC, Royal Burnham YC, Crouch YC and Burnham SC. EVENT DETAILS: One of the most popular east coast regatta race weeks, with a glittering history and regular participants who have in the past included former Prime Minister Edward Heath. Close quarters and tidal sailing in and around the waters of the River Crouch. Open to fast and slow handicap dinghies, cruisers, one-design and IRC yachts alike, Burnham Week offers something for everyone, including a sparkling social scene. FORMAT: One or two races daily, depending on class and program. Competitors can enter the full week or just the Bank Holiday Weekend Points, Mid Week Points or Final Saturday, with races for prestigious trophies throughout. CLASSES: IRC classes 1-4, Multihull, RS Elite, Stella, Dragon, 707, Squib, Sonata, RCOD, RBOD, Osprey and Dinghy Handicap. Up-to-date list can be found on the website, new classes are welcomed. MERSEA WEEK August 19–24 West Mersea YC and Dabchicks SC, Essex EVENT DETAILS: Competitive family oriented week; generations of families taking part with more people coming back year on year. Great location with plenty of accommodation, and the River Blackwater provides an excellent safe area for the sailing. FORMAT: Racing Sunday to Friday for Week’s Points championship, lay day Tuesday for the unique Round Mersea Island race for dinghies. CLASSES: Dinghies, Mersea Fishermen’s Open Boats (known as the Brigs), smacks, classic yachts, local PY handicap and IRC yachts. ENTRY FEES: £40 for the week for yachts, £30 for for dinghies.
