RIYADH GOLF COURSES 18-hole, Par 72 Ð 7,500 yards
Located 20-25 minutes from the city centre, Riyadh Golf Courses is home to an 18-hole championship grass course and a separate desert course for players to test their skills on different terrain. Referred to as the Green Course and the choice for the November 2011 Volvo World Golf Challenge, the grass course has been transformed in recent months, with the club deciding to reverse the first and back nine holes so that the 18th hole, rather than the eighth hole, is positioned in front of the clubhouse. The course has lush green fair- ways, rolling hills and four lakes to create a scenic spot for golfers that will find the par-6, 739-yard 11th hole particularly challenging. The front nine holes of the course are also now floodlit for night play and there is a nearby two-storey driving range with 22 bases on each level, plus a 5,000-square- metre clubhouse - often a popular venue for corporate events of up to 200. Recent
Founded in 1948, this was the first grass course in the Eastern Province. The present course design was selected from several proposals submitted by golf-course design- ers, with the winning proposal coming from Scotland's Calum Todd. This prestigious course hosted the Saudi National Golf Team in a Stableford Challenge match in 2006.
