DAMMAM
Leading city and the capital of the Eastern province, Dammam is an important business centre for import-export traffic within one of the Arabian Gulf’s largest ports
KING FAHD PARK Specifically designed as a modern leisure space spread over 67 acres, King Fahd Park is the largest in the King- dom. Made up of a number of smaller parks, visitors will find various cafs, pools, lagoons, fountains and an amusement centre for children. Located on the Dhahran-Dammam expressway between Dammam and Al Khobar, the park has been formed by thousands of trees, bushes and ornamental pools and offers a green-space refuge in the middle of a hectic and bustling city. A leisurely stroll right round the park or the train ride provided by the Saudi Amusement Centre is the best way to view the scenery.

Stretching all the way from Al Azziziah Beach to Tarot Island, the Corniche is one of Dammam's most popular recreational areas for locals and visitors alike. It is positioned in the middle of a wide semi-circular bay. Work on extending the original long palm-lined promenade has been carried out in recent years to introduce restaurants, fast-food outlets and amusement parks. The Saudis' love of talented works of art has been encap- sulated in the modern art installations lining the Corniche, but there are also more active pastimes to enjoy, such as games and sports facilities.

MUSEUMS
HALF-MOON BAY Found about half a mile west of Highway 1, Half-Moon Bay's name comes from its semi- circular shape, constructed originally by a group of divers lowering old vehicles near the shoreline to create a reef. While the waters boast plenty of fish, the man-made bay offers little coral growth, although, most of the vehicles are covered in barnacles. Entry to the visitor centre is free of charge.

AND HERITAGE Dammam's opulent and absorbing public library houses the Dammam National Museum. Situated on the fourth floor, the museum is a centre rich with Saudi culture and heritage. Relics and remnants of handicrafts are on display, offering an insight into how inhabitants once lived and thrived in the community. In the Dammam Heritage Centre, aspects of regional history are brought to life through various collections of Bedouin crafts, costumes, poetry and Stone Age tools. The Kingdom's oil history can be explored at the Saudi Aramco Exhibition Centre in Dhahran, 15 kilometres south of Dammam, where visitors will find a comprehensive guide to oil. The museum also has a section on Islamic history and the arts.
