ONE MINUTE MOORE RANDALL MOORE

Asinine bureaucrats… I’m

sick of them sick of them. Living out Stittsville way, you get to know a lot of

hunters. And some of them like to share their kill. Deer, moose…as delicious as anything I’ve brought home from the butcher. But that same meat isn’t good enough for our food banks. Welcome to Ontario, where we are constantly

reminded that our food banks are in dire need of donations and that protein is what those going to food banks need the most. Yes, protein − what wild game is loaded with. Yet

the food banks are turning down donations of deer steaks and ground venison. Happened at a local food bank: It said no to a

generous donation by the Ottawa Valley branch of Safari Club International. Turned down all this meat, the same meat consumed by millions of hunters every year. It said no because of new provincial regulations stating that only animals raised in captivity or killed in a licensed slaughterhouse are welcome in Ontario food banks. Pretty sad, eh? By the way, have you seen the inside

of a slaughterhouse? Doesn’t exactly make a person hungry. Deer and moose, on the other hand, are the most organic meat you can eat. Shame on those faceless well-fed bureaucrats in Toronto who came up with this asinine regulation! And their political masters who wouldn’t know a cow from a donkey − because what they’re saying is they’d rather see people go hungry than allow them to eat properly processed wild game. No wonder hunters think bureaucrats are out to lunch. ‘Cause most of them are.

*** So public health officials say an expanded smoking

ban would make for a healthier city. They take us for fools. Banning smoking on patios, beaches and parks is

going to make the city healthier? Based on what? Really. Show me the evidence

that banning smoking in the great outdoors will make us healthier. They won’t because they can’t. And to implement a bylaw to enforce such madness?! What kind of fascist state do we live in? Do we

seriously want bylaw officers walking up and down our beaches handing out $300 tickets for smoking? Do we

really want to punish bar and restaurant owners who rely on their patio smokers just to break even? Does anybody care? Again, those faceless bureaucrats. Man, I’m

*** Hey, guys, know those support payments

you’ve been paying all these years? You know, the ones that put you in the poor house, forced you to crash on your buddies’ couches or move back in with your parents? Well, guess what…you were right all along

− you were paying too much! The bureaucrats at FRO, Ontario’s controversial Family Responsibility Office, admit they messed up, in that they’ve been overbilling parents (mostly fathers of course), for as long as 13 years. It has to do with the agency wrongly applying a cost of living adjustment that was eliminated in 1997. Good work. They’re so busy at FRO trying to make fathers feel like criminals, so busy financially destroying good men, so busy destroying relationships with children, they can’t even figure out their own guidelines! And of course, no bureaucrat will be fired. But

if you can’t make a support payment… ***

Now I don’t begrudge anyone making a good

buck, but sometimes you have to say “enough’s enough.” Like with Robert Gillett, the president of Algonquin College and his obscene golden handshake. Hear about that? The Algonquin president will be paid $500,000 when he retires next year. It’s true. He’s to be paid for a sabbatical equal to one year of his full salary and benefits… PLUS, a retirement allowance equal to one year’s salary … in ADDITION TO his six-figure pension. He made $364,000 last year, including $31 grand in taxable benefits. Like…he’s the president of a community college, not the United States of America! And how many times have you heard the

administration telling teachers and support staff and everyone else that they have to hold the line on wages, that there’s only so much to go around. Yet they have $500,000 for a golden handshake, not to mention a $364,000 salary. While our kids struggle to pay tuition. Something wrong with this picture, folks. Something seriously wrong.
