Election of Council


Notice is given of an election to fill vacancies on the Institution’s Council, in accordance with By-law 41, to take effect from the AGM to be held on Saturday 14 July 2012.


The number of vacancies to be filled is five. Council nominates the following to fill these vacancies: Mr Simon Benfield and Professor Gordon Blount.


Call to Members


The Institution’s Royal Charter is destined to be displayed at IED HQ, but we need a special frame designed to hold it.


The Charter itself is made up of 16 sheets of vellum, bound together at the base by a thick braid and sealed at the very bottom by a large wax disc, one side showing a detail of Her Majesty the Queen, the other showing the Royal Seal. Ideally we would like to be able to view both sides of the Seal.


The Seal itself is very heavy, and will need to be supported within the frame, to prevent pull on the braiding and damage to the vellum sheets. The dimensions of the Charter are: Vellum sheets: 35.5cm x 46cm (approximately 4mm in thickness in total). Seal: 16cm diameter, 22mm deep (double- sided image).

The Chairman of Council will be Dr D J B Maffin and the Vice Chairmen will be Mrs L J Copestake, Dr T M B Humphries-Smith and EurIng S P Vaitkevicius.


Any three corporate members may nominated any other corporate member for election to Council by delivering such nomination in writing to the Secretary, together with the written consent of such person to accept office if elected.


Nominations must be received by Friday 27 April 2012.
