The 2012 Son-Rise Cup Festival By Allen Lewis
A warm welcome to all who are taking part in the
7th.Son-Rise Cup Football festival which takes place on 19th and 20th May 2012. The event now has grown to such a scale we need three facilities to cater for all the matches we hope to have this year.
As always the heart of the event will be Ability Counts football which hopefully will show how inspiring some of our talented footballers with disabilities and special needs play and enjoy football. Any profits from the event will go to support local disabled sides and increase the awareness so that we can reach out to others with problems and give them a chance to be part of a team! It is a fact that since we started the Tavistock Specials FC all involved have seen a dramatic change in people’s lives. Not only are they part of a team but they have made friends, have more of a social life and their parents and carers have formed strong bonds, sharing stories and problems.
Both Son-Rise Cup Committees are excited to have a successful event this year and on top of the football they hope to make much needed funds to support disability football. The businesses of Tavistock are extremely proud of
the event and without their support the festival could not survive. It is so exciting this year that Ocean BMW are coming alongside to work with us and help in many areas and they are thrilled to be a part of this unique football fixture.
Rob Rich, owner of Tavistock’s traditional sweet shop ‘I Love Candy’ the new Chairman of the Son-Rise Business Committee with event organiser, Allen Lewis. Rob has kindly sponsored all the size 3 balls for the 2012 event!
A thank you must also go to the Devon FA and in particular Dave Keast who has attended many meetings and has always put his knowledge of football to good use on the Committee. Also a thank you to the Referees who will help make the event run smoothly and with their professional skills they will put the polish into the matches and hold firm to the FA Respect programme
Let’s hope that the 2012
Son-Rise Cup is a great
success and becomes the biggest football festival in the South West of England!.

Modern Pentathlete and Olympic silver medallist, is Patron of the event
