by sylvia rodemeyer The Abbey in West Hollywood will play host to more than 200 guests on

Oscar night as part of the 11th Annual AIDS Project L.A. (APLA) viewing party. The star-studded event draws celebrities, fans and locals who come together to have a great night of fun and entertainment and raise funds for a great cause. The red carpet will be rolled out on Sunday, February 26 for “The Enve-

lope Please,” APLA’s signature Oscar viewing event. The soiré is a growing tradition among West Hollywood VIPs that was launched with the help of entrepreneur and Abbey founder David Cooley 11 years ago. What started as a party at Cooley’s home with friends, has morphed into one of the most successful Oscar parties on Santa Monica and Robertson Boulevard, which temporarily becomes “Oscar Row” on the night of the academy awards. “APLA has done so much for the community, it’s nice to hold an event that

raises awareness and funds in such an energetic and exciting way,” Cooley says of the event. This year, The Abbey and celebrity host Pauley Perrette of NCIS will enter- tain guests in the plush dining rooms for a cocktail reception followed by a seated dinner during the Oscar telecast prepared specially for the evening by a top-tier chef. Over the past decade, “The Envelope Please” has raised over $1 million for APLA and people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. “Oscar night is a night celebrities are cel-

ebrated, and by attending this event, it gives everyone a chance to feel special and dress up and feel like one of the stars on the red carpet.”
