Ballycastle receives Charter
The Rotary Foundation at Work
The Rotary Club of Tatuape Sao Paulo Brazil with the Rotary Club of Comber recently completed a jointly funded Rotary Foundation Matching Grant project to install 28 workstations in a purpose built computer room in Mater Dei Special School Sao Paulo.
The school looks after physically and mentally handicapped children with both residential and day students. A large number of the 30 residential students are orphaned or abandoned children and a further 30 day students also attend. Commenting in the success of the project, the School Principle said that the computers allowed the residential students more access to the outside world via email and the web and already a number of students were showing positive results.

The greatest milestone in any Rotary Clubʼs existence is the award of its Charter. On Friday October 14th a wonderful gathering of fellow Rotarians assembled in The Central Restaurant to participate in and support a ceremony which officially recognises the presence of an active and ambitious Club in Ballycastle.
Guests from as far as Limerick joined with those from Dublin and Cork to mark an occasion where the generosity of our neighbouring Clubs was very much in evidence.
Not content with a highly successful evening, visitors on Saturday grasped the opportunity to explore the many sights and attractions of the North Coast under the expert tutelage of guide and local historian, Mr Danny McGill.
On return to Ballycastle, a civic reception kindly hosted by Chairman of Moyle District Council, Mr Paudraig McShane, served to reinforce the goodwill much in evidence and an evening of superb entertainment showcasing an abundance of local talent proved a fine conclusion to the day. Ballycastle Golf Club can be rightly proud of its facilities.
Sunday morning and a bracing boat trip to Rathlin allowed Rotarians to learn of the history of the island and indeed thanks to storyteller Liz Weir, to familiarise themselves with its rich culture. The sight of the Ferry Terminal and the smell of fish and chips signified the end of a truly memorable programme of events. The Rotary Club of Ballycastle is deeply indebted to a huge number of people and they will be acknowledged in due course. For the time‑ being, thanks must be directed to the men and women of Rotary Ireland for supporting us in our development ‒ it has been an unforgettable and humbling experience.
Rotary Club Of Carlow Annual Fashion Show for local Charities was a big success in the Seven Oaks Hotel. Models showed style from local boutiques, Nursery Rhymes, Touch of Class, Macs and Erre Esse. The interval saw local talent perform in Song and Irish Dance. Spot prizes galore were raffled and lots of money (cheque to be presented at a later date) was raised for worthy causes in the area.
