The Rotary Club of Dublin Fingal has been granted permission to host a gala film premiere at the Pavilions Shopping Centre. Movies@Swords have kindly given the local Rotary club the use of a 200 seater cinema for use for A‑Z Childrenʼs Charity, an Irish based charity that carries out extraordinary work in the Kampala region of Uganda. Its cross‑generational appeal has ensured the Killarney Rotary Clubʼs Evening of Wine & Art is now a firmly established date on Kerryʼs social calendar and this year's event proved as popular as ever.
Eighty artists showcased their work at the Evening of Wine & Art, which took place in The Malton Hotel, Killarney, on Thursday, November 24, and, as always, the vibrant art display proved the perfect hunting ground for early‑bird Christmas shoppers eager to snap up eye‑catching gifts. Up to a thousand people of all ages mingled on the night during which enticing wines, beers and cheeses were served.
Killarney Rotary Club organised the 2011 night in a bid to generate cash for Kerry Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre and other local causes, including projects at St Oliverʼs NS, Ballycasheen, Killarney, and St Francisʼ Special School, Beaufort. Among the other
charities benefiting during the night were Kerry Stars Special Olympics Club, the Irish Pilgrimage Trust (IHCPT) and the Killarney branch of the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl. “The Evening of Wine & Art is always a fantastic social occasion and 30% of the commission from the sales of the artwork goes to charity,” said Killarney Rotary Club president Sean Treacy. An exciting auction also took place on the night, with proceeds of all the lots being donated to the charities. A perfect opportunity to mingle and catch up with old friends, the event drew artists and attendees from all over Ireland. The winner of the clubʼs art quiz was also announced on the night and will get to pack the suitcases for weekend for two at a luxury four‑star hotel.
