BLACK’S GAME (Ice) World premiere Dir Oskar Thor Axelsson Executive produced by Nicolas Winding Refn, this crime thriller is based on the bestseller Black Curse by Stefan Mani. Black’s Game is Axelsson’s feature debut, and the cast includes Thorvaldur David Kristjansson, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, Damon Younger and Egill Einarsson. CLIP (Serb) World premiere Dir Maja Milos The feature debut of Belgrade-born Milos, Clip is a portrait of teenagers stuck in sexual and social turmoil. EGG AND STONE (Chi) World premiere Dir Huang Ji A quietly disturbing drama, Egg And Stone follows a 14-year-old girl forced to live with her uncle and aunt in the countryside while her parents work in the city. A FISH (S Kor) International premiere Dir Park Hong-min The first 3D film in Rotterdam’s Tiger Awards competition, A Fish is the feature debut of writer-director Park. The road movie follows a pro- fessor of logic and metaphysics who is travelling with a detective who says he has found the professor’s missing wife on an island. LIVING (Rus) World premiere Dir Vasily Sigarev Russian playwright and film-maker Sigarev won international acclaim for his 2009 feature debut Wolfy, win- ning prizes at the Sochi and Zurich film festivals, among others. L was co-written by Makridis and Efthimis Filippou, a co-writer of Yor- gos Lanthimos’ Dogtooth and Alps, which won the best screenplay prize at Venice last year. L was a world premiere at Sundance. NEIGHBOURING SOUNDS (Bra) World premiere Dir Kleber Mendonca Filho Neighbouring Sounds is set in a mid- dle-class neighbourhood in Recife, Brazil, where life takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of a private secu- rity firm. It is the first fiction feature from Filho, whose shorts have screened in festivals such as Karlovy Vary, Clermont-Ferrand, Cannes and Rotterdam, where a retrospective of his films was part of the 2007 pro- gramme. RETURN TO BURMA (Tai-Bur) European premiere Dir Midi Z Return To Burma tells the story of an immigrant labourer in Taiwan who saves enough money to return home. Bringing the remains of a friend who died in a construction accident, he begins to look for busi- ness opportunities — revealing the true face of Burma and the angst of its youngsters. The film is the first feature from Midi Z, who was selected as a leading director of the Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy in 2009, organised by Hou Hsiao- hsien, who produced the director’s short Hua-Xing Incident.
