that launched the careers of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, and has hosted the likes of Clapton to Diamond, a burning funk set has just been ripped through by a young guitarist whose presence will remind you of a Kravitz or a Hen- drix. The visuals are obvious as is the guitar centered music, but so too is the electricity, the musicianship, the sounds, the groovy, groovy, groviness. The late- night New York crowd loses their normal affectations and showers their affection on Singh Birdsong. He does not disappoint. The music grinds, rocks, slips and slides and pulls the crowd through the night. After a blistering set, the rhythm section
vacates and the prosaic Birdsong delivers a haunting version of Moon River. One watches him whisk through the ballad knowing, seeing his youth and yet that voice screams of emotional ma- turity, drives with depth, and moves with melody. The night will go on into the music memory of those there. Another day just like this one Birdsong will do it all over again and on the 21st of January Birdsong will be bringing his song to town. er East Side and has his roots in and around downtown Manhattan, New York. The eclectic beauty and energy of the West Village, Chinatown, and everywhere in between are palpable in Singh’s music. He’s brought that electrify- ing New York to performances in Moscow, Belgium, Paris, London and elsewhere in England, Italy, Greece and all over the United States. His music walks into the booming, swerv- ing, flashing, pounding, swishing chaos of the city and with an exuberant thrust rocks out right there. Birdsong has partnered with local musician Dominic Valen-
tine to bring his live show to Maryland, Virginia and West Vir- ginia. “If music was a religion, Singh would be an Evangelist,” says Valentine. “The level of our local music scene has taken giant leaps in the last couple of years,” says Valentine. “I am ecstatic to be able to share with our community the talents of musicians like Singh and feel privileged to share in the moment. He is a dynamic performer, singer and guitarist.” Singh Birdsong will be performing at The New Yorkshire at 117 E. German Street in Shep- herdstown on Saturday, January 21 from 10- to 1.
LOPEZ- The talented vocalist and guitarist Christian Lopez has
spent most of 2011 playing solo and guesting with other up and coming artists. Lopez is looking forward to taking his new band “Joe Taxi” into clubs and festivals in 2012. “Last years’ experi- ences have given me more focus and detail on my music,” says Lopez. “I just want keep playing, getting experience and expo- sure. And of course I love interacting with a live audience.” Lopez is wowing audiences with his great voice and his
broad range of music. His live shows are loaded with popular songs from Cash to Mayer. His rendition of Amos Lee’s “In the Arms of a Woman” will raise the hair on your neck. “I love playing well crafted songs by popular artists, and this year I am also incorporating several original tunes that I have been honing with the band and plan to record this year.” Lopez will be performing at The New York- shire at 117 E. German Street in Shepherdstown on Saturday, January 28.
