MORE THAN JUST LOBSTER TRAPS!!
One of the deck houses on ADVENTURESS, which is being restored at Rockport Marine
They are rebedding her deck hardware, re- placing the head system and revarnishing all the brightwork.
They have Chewink, which was built by Shew & Burnham of South Bristol, in the shop for repairs to her transom. Most of this repair will include just refastening.
Another two boats that will be coming in, a Sea Ox and a Parker, both of which will have their hardware and rails removed, rebedded and reinstalled.
Brewer’s South Freeport Marine in South Freeport has completed the hauling season. Right in the middle of the hauling season they had to replace the steel bulk- head. This was done by Prock Marine of Rockland and took approximately two months to complete. John Brewer said that he was extremely pleased with the job that they did.
In the shop is a Sabre 34 which is being repowered due to the number of hours on the engine. She currently has a Westerbeke and this will probably be replaced with another one.
Several boats will be brought into the shop and have their bottoms stripped. This means that they will be soda blasted, and then covered with a barrier coat. Some of the boats already done include a Tianan 44 and a Sabre 34. They still have at least two more to do. A Bavaria 40 was involved in a collision off Cape Cod and suffered major fiberglass damage. She is currently in being repaired. Damaged in the hurricane was a Baba 35, which suffered some fiberglass damage. Once this is repaired she will head to the paint shop to be Awlgripped. This was a former
customer who had been at the yard a couple of years ago and had the hull Awlgripped. Also heading to the paint bay to be Awlgripped is a 34 foot Vineyard Vixen. Over and above these projects the yard will be relatively busy all winter and spring servicing their over 200 storage customers.
Robin Hood Marine in Georgetown is always an interesting place to stop by. One never knows what you might find there. They have most of their boat hauling completed and are working on getting their storage customers ready for next season. In one shop is a Tartan 41 which is in for Awlgrip and varnish.
In another shop is a Wilbur 38. She is having her electronics upgraded. They will also refinish her exterior woodwork. A Whistler 48 is in having her house stripped and revarnished. They also re- moved and rebuilt her diesel engine. A Cape Dory 28 is in for a new electrical system, anchor windlass, pulpit and a cockpit awning.
A Wilbur 34 and an F&C 44 will be coming and both will be getting electronic upgrades.
As I said this is always an interesting place to stop by. Down on the dock was what they called the “Bug,” which is a catamaran that is 16-feet long, 8-foot beam powered with a small outboard. She was designed for people who are challenged using a small dinghy to get out to Robinhood Marine’s floating cottages. The deck of the “Bug” is the same height as the deck on the floating
