here’s no shame in indulging over the festive period, after all, Christmas only comes once a year. But before you know it, it’s bikini time again and we’re left with a few extra pounds to shift. Fear not, with the right diet, detox and a good exercise regime you will be shedding the weight in no time.
New you T
New Year Diet
When trying to lose weight, the most important thing is to do it properly. Don’t cut out food groups altogether, simply reduce the amount of food that you eat. Most detox diets do have a slimming effect but this is usually because they severely limit the amount of calories. “Try to eat protein with every meal – fi sh, eggs, pulses and meat are a good example,” says Elizabeth Houston, owner of Houston’s Nutritional Therapy (
www.houstonsnutrition.co.uk). “This helps even out blood sugar levels, avoiding the highs and lows which leave you reaching for that afternoon sugar fi x,” she explains.
Nutrition
To kick start your weight loss, sacrifi ce some of your old favourites. “Avoid alcohol, sugary foods, white bread, pasta and rice, wheat, cow’s milk, dairy products, coffee, tea and take-aways” advises Fleur Brown, registered nutritional therapist at The Health Haven www.fl
eurbrownnutrition.co.uk. “Eat at least fi ve portions of fresh vegetables/fruit per day and plan meals around freshly prepared soups, casseroles and stews, simply grilled fi sh and chicken, goats and sheep’s cheeses, beans, pulses, organic eggs, nuts and seeds. Ensure a good intake of fl uid daily with water, herb and fruit teas, or green, white and redbush tea,” she suggests.
