Natural Awakenings Opens New Online Store N


Celebrate Nature at Annual Festival

xperience and celebrate Southwest Florida’s natural paradise at a va- riety of locations during the eighth annual Southwest Florida Nature Festival, taking place from January 13 to 15. The event will encompass more than 40 guided field trips, including birding walks and boat tours; and 20 wildlife hot spots such as Naples Botanical Garden, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Big Cypress National Preserve, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center.


Most of the field trips take between two and four hours and can handle 10 to 20 participants. Become a member of the Friends of Rookery Bay for advance field trip registration. A highlight of the festival will be a keynote address, “The


Big Lives of Florida’s Waterbirds,” from 5 to 7 p.m., January 14, by documentary filmmakers Judy Fieth and Michael Male, at Rookery Bay’s Environmental Learning Center, in Naples. Fieth and Male were involved with PBS and BBC series such as NOVA, Nature, Planet Earth and Life of Birds. Several other area wildlife experts will also make presentations earlier that day.


Field trip fees: Most cost between $8 to $10, plus additional fees based on location. Jan. 14 lectures: $10, including light refreshments. Rookery Bay location: 300 Tower Rd.
