I
think the garden was the biggest challenge for me. I must have spoken to 5 gardeners, trying
to get someone to understand what I wanted or didn’t want, needed and didn’t need. Trust me, transforming my thoughts and ideas
into a “dream garden”, at a reasonable price, was no easy task, but Martino and crew (of Da Prato Giardini) made it happen. They came to our place on separate occasions to have a good look at our yard and the surrounding area and to speak to me, before they presented their final ideas to us. I felt that they really understood what we wanted and liked. They worked well and were quite quick. And now our previously drab and muddy yard has been transformed into a colorful and welcoming Mediterranean style- garden, with a North American twist (gotta’ have your maple tree, eh!)
Sometimes ya’ just gotta’ be lucky! Man I hit the jackpot with Marcello of CMC impianti. He is a jack of all trades. Not only did he install the air-conditioning system, central vac, solar panels on our roof and water softener, he also built our wood decks, put up a fence and did the complete installation of our thermo-
fireplace. I am not sure if there is anything he can’t do. If I ask him “Do you do this, or Can you do that?” he always says: “Of course I can, I installed that at “so and so’s” house or built that for “that company”. He’s quite the handyman, able to build a roof, shingles and all. He’ll assemble your wood shed for you, install the watering system in your garden and the list goes on. He even created a hand-made wrought-iron railing for our neighbor’s stairs. Marcello was also kind enough to install or mount little things for me that I couldn’t do myself, so besides calling him for the obvious electrical and plumbing issues, if you’re not sure who to call for a job that you need done, call Marcello. He’ll do the job quickly and with precision.
If he can hook you up to tv/satellite programs in your own language, he’s a keeper! Leandro from Elettro Systems was awesome. The task he was presented with at our place was a bit complicated, but no problem for him. We wanted German tv and English tv (2 different satellites) and wanted them in different rooms, but not necessarily both in all rooms. Plus he needed to change some stuff with Sky; he promptly took care of everything for us, even organizing a second SKY decoder and getting information on the SKY packages for us (I hate calling those call centers and having to speak Italian with them). He did all the channel programming and showed me how everything worked. He is of course not only “the satellite guy”, for example, he also plans and installs electrical and alarm systems.
