heating & renewable energy supplement

Mitsubishi Electric has published a free guide to domestic air source heat pumps, designed to focus on the benefits of the technology and highlight how a properly fitted heat pump can cut costs along with car- bon and help properties meet lev- els three and four of the code for sustainable homes.
The guide explains the basics of heat pump technology and focuses on how it extracts heat from the outdoor air, even at temperatures of -15°C.
The booklet also offers advice on what type of heat pump is appro- priate for a property and provides information on how to get the best out of a new heat pump system, by complimenting it with insulation and other energy saving initiatives.

Can a heat pump help you reduce fuel bills and meet the Code?
Off-grid homes or small businesses can now benefit from free hot water. Powerguard have intro- duced a highly efficient and cost effective combined heat and power (CHP) system for off-grid properties. Using tried and tested heat recovery technology, the system provides two different temperatures of water for use as space heating and hot water mains. Using the advanced con- trol system to both the elec- trical power and water circuits (to optimise the use of energy) means that the overall efficiency of the system is more than 80 per cent. The PS CHP system can be installed to a new property or retrofitted into an existing water main. The PS CHP system is also designed to accommodate differ- ent types of renewable energy.
