When having a new country house built near Ripon, the property owner was looking to maximise heating effi- ciency whilst extracting condensation from the kitchen and bathroom areas over the four floor levels of the sizeable building. Using the Johnson & Starley Q-Vent heat recovery system not only enabled efficient extraction with very little heat loss, but also imparted major energy savings by providing the total heating requirements for the top floor of the building from otherwise wasted
heat. Two Q-Vent HR160 units are installed in the property. Vents are built into the ceiling of the kitchen, cloakrooms and the three bathrooms as well as in the wine cellar wash-up area – anywhere moisture can be produced.

Cold temper- atures can result in a major increase in frozen condensate drainage pipes and if the pipe is blocked it can stop the condensate from flowing away there- fore causing the boiler to shut off. Raychem FrostGuard is easily fixed either in or onto the condensate pipe to prevent it from freezing. It includes smart self-regulating technology, which
means in very cold conditions the heater cable produces more heat and in milder freezing conditions, less heat. The system offers freeze protection and energy efficiency.
