Saddle Up For Winter Solstice Riding in
SOUTH CAROLINA
CALIFORNIA & LOUISIANA,
BY ROBERT EVERSOLE
Early winter rides mean short days and cool weather. Summer’s halcyon days and fall’s colors are fading memories, and spring’s rebirth is but a wish at this point. Fight the urge to hibernate during these short, dark days and venture out into the cool weather that ushers in the end of the year. Perhaps I’m projecting, but I like to think that trail riders ride year round, have an aversion to arenas and want to explore new areas and trails. Riding throughout the winter means learning the best way of dealing with the vagaries of the weather, a yearning for adventure and a willingness to accept a certain amount of discomfort in order to wander and roam with your equine partner. With that in mind, let’s look at what riders can look forward to during December in a few different areas across the country.
