Culina promises fresh look at food logistics
Culina says it will join up the dots in the food supply chain

with carefully selected partners in North America, South America, Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Far East who will provide local support services. Many retailers are moving to

Rail operator opens new route to high cubes
D
irect Rail Services (DRS) has launched a rail service for high-
cube boxes from PD Ports’ Teesport container terminal to Stobart Group’s Widnes Intermodal Rail Depot. It operates five days a week using
‘SuperLow 45’ wagons capable of carrying 9’6” high high-cube containers over non-gauge enhanced and height restricted routes, opening up almost the entire UK rail network to the larger boxes. The service was initially set up to cater for P&O Ferrymasters’ traffic on
its ro ro services from Zeebrugge and Rotterdam but it will also carry other customers’ boxes. The service is capable of
carrying up to 32 containers on each train.
DRS is running high cube boxes to Stobart in Widnes
It is the second new rail

will co-ordinate worldwide door- to-door temperature controlled air transportation services for customers needing to move fresh produce, horticulture and other short shelf-life items in and out of the UK and Europe as quickly as possible. In addition to the core freight service the business will offer innovative packaging solutions and other value-added activities. The sea freight operation offers a
door-to-door, tracked service with full UK port coverage and customs brokerage. Surface freight will comprise a full set of road and rail services. Culina Fresh will also be implementing a carbon emissions reduction programme to support its
customers’ sustainability
objectives. The Group is also in the final
stages of setting up the UK logistics arm of Culina Fresh.
Green light for Teesside terminal T
eesside based logistics and port operator AV Dawson has
secured planning permission for its new intermodal rail terminal at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Park estate and plans to start work later this year. Once completed, the £2.6m AV Dawson Tees Intermodal Terminal
will have rail sidings capable of handling trains carrying
up to 80 containers, 16,000sq m of operational area and storage for up to 1,200 containers. There will be a direct link to the East Coast Main Line. AV Dawson says that it is the only the Middlesbrough able to
