climbed to the summit of Mount Everest in May, becoming the youngest Scot to complete the Seven Summit Challenge. The


challenge is to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents. These include the peaks of Kilimanjaro, Elbrus and Aconcagua, the cold peaks of Mt Vinson on Antarctica and Denali (Mt McKinley) in North America, the Carstensz Pyramid,


a technical rock summit on the island of New Guinea, and Everest, the summit of Asia and the highest point in the world. This was Geordie’s second attempt to conquer Everest. Last year, he had been poised to conquer the 8,848 metres mountain but


had to turn back less than 120m from the summit, in


order to assist his Sherpa guide, and two team-mates who were suff ering from severe altitude sickness.

In September, The Cheltenham Ladies’ College hosted a conference for sixth- form students from across Cheltenham who are planning to study medicine at university. It was also aimed at students who intend to read psychology or follow careers in nursing, midwifery and biochemistry. The 140 students heard from a range of speakers, including consultants and others who are experts in their fi elds.
