Capital treats for the festive season
London’s en fete with holiday ice-rinks, fun pan- tos and extravagant Christ- mas theatrical treats for adults and children. Tiffany sponsors the
ritziest ice skating at Somerset House, with a skate school for novices, DJ evenings on Friday and Saturday, and tempting cupcakes, washed down with champagne or hot chocolate.
The Natural History Museum has a
charming carousel and ice-rink in its gardens, along with a mini-German Christmas Market and Café Bar, serving mulled wine or spiced winter red tea. But the most spectacular Christmas
family event is the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, open 10am to 10pm
every day until 3rd January. This is where you’ll find the biggest and best ice rink; a 53 metre Giant Observation Wheel; Santa Land; Zippos Christmas Circus; over 100 festive rides – and a huge range of food stalls, restaurants and cafes. Best time to go is when the sun goes
down, and the place lights up with magical, coloured lights, Christmas songs and carols. Marvellous for all ages.
