Local Artist Creates Replicas Of Sonoma County Historical Landmarks And Wineries
Weird Facts & Trivia -8 By Greg Zirbel
Born March 6, 1962, at Merritt Hospital in Oakland, here I am 50 years later not far away. At just two weeks old my par- ents, my two older brothers & I in tow moved up to Truckee where I graduated and moved to Santa Rosa to attend Santa Rosa Junior College.
I soon
landed a driving job with UPS where I worked for a dozen years until I hurt my back in 1992. This is when I decided to make my own Christmas gifts and just happened to run into what used to be the largest pig farm in Sonoma County on Railroad Avenue just south of Cotati. I built about 350 bird houses from

that lumber, many resembling historical
buildings in the
Sonoma County area. Most people who see them say they are the most beautiful birdhouses they've ever seen. Well, I moved on and spent the next 17 years working in the IT field as Telephone Technical Support Specialist, Systems Test Specialist,
Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, Systems Administrator II, and finally a Senior Technical Support Specialist. Well it’s been 2 ½ years ago now that I was laid off once again and told myself I’m glad to be off that 17 year roller-coaster ride. Along the way I've never been without my camera and have amassed many images of Sonoma County, but also missed build- ing my Birdhouses. So now I have been putting much more time into my art which I feel is what I was meant to do any- way because it’s what I love to do. I am saving a little bit of Sonoma County history and creating replicas of Sonoma County historical landmarks and wineries.
