• Sarah Cardew, a partner at the Basingstoke office of Penningtons Solicitors, has been awarded an important Law Society appointment which will see her providing commentary to the Government on proposed changes to the VAT legislation. Cardew is one of nine specialist tax lawyers on the VAT and duties sub-committee of the Law Society’s tax committee, whose role is to consider and comment upon VAT issues and draft legislation as well as to act as a liaison between the Law Society and the Treasury. After joining Penningtons in 2007 from Berwin Leighton Paisner, Cardew became a partner in 2008. She leads the firm’s

• Royal Bank of Scotland Corporate & Institutional Banking (RBS CIB) has strengthened its technology & telecoms team in the Thames Valley and south region with the appointment of two highly experienced sector specialists. Roland Emmans (pictured right) has been recruited as relationship director, head of south technology & telecoms team. Emmans, who has 20 years of CIB experience, will be based in RBS CIB’s Reading office and head up a large team of specialists. Joining him will be Jeremy Richards,(pictured left) business development director. He will also be based in RBS CIB’s Reading office. Richards has moved internally from RBS Corporate Asset Finance.
