20 SME 100 list launched
The Business Magazine this month launches the SME 100 annual listing of the top SMEs in the Thames Valley
Supported by Santander bank, Haines Watts chartered accountants, and Clifton Ingram solicitors, the SME 100 was unveiled at a networking event in Reading.
The SME 100 lists companies in the Thames Valley below £10 million turnover. Ranked by sales, it shows private independent businesses across a broad range of sectors.
Compiled from records held at Companies House and sourced from Experian and OneSource, the list includes businesses headquartered in the Thames Valley which are UK-owned and not subsidiaries of foreign groups. Businesses that list on the London Stock Exchange, AIM or overseas exchanges are excluded.
David Murray, publisher of The Business Magazine, said: “The SME 100 completes the picture, as we have a Thames Valley
250 covering the larger companies, and a Southern Tech 100 covering the technology sector. The SME 100 brings out of the woodwork some lesser known but fantastically successful small and medium- sized enterprises in this region.”
At the top of the SME 100 are two companies of almost equal size – but very different in all other aspects. Swain & Jones is a renowned car dealership, specialising in Jaguar and Land Rover, with its main centre in Farnham.
The oldest remaining family-run car dealer network in the country, Swain & Jones celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008.
At joint number one in the list is Jointing Technologies, based at Woking. The UK’s leading distributor of power cable accessories, electric underfloor heating, high-voltage components and Raychem trace heating
systems, Jointing Technologies’ solutions are in place at sites as varied as Arsenal’s Emirates stadium and Lymington New Forest Hospital.
At number three in the list is DVD Technology, based in Reading. One of Europe’s leading distributors of recordable storage, peripherals, accessories, domestic appliance and personal grooming products.
Formed in 1998, the company has grown to provide a one-stop-shop solution for its clients, with over 1,500 product lines.
The SME 100 is supported by Santander Corporate Banking, the Reading and Wokingham-based law firm Clifton Ingram, and Haines Watts, the business advisers and chartered accountants with offices in Farnborough, Reading, High Wycombe, Oxford, Slough, Basingstoke, and throughout the south.
