A small boarding and day school for bright children ages 6-14, at admission, with learning disabilities, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, non-verbal learning disabilities or visual and auditory processing disorders. The program is well suited to those with ADHD or organizational difficulties. Individualized academic and character development programs include: small classes (5:1 student: teacher ratio) and one-to-one instruction each; our own acclaimed Upward Lift reading program – Oakland’s specialty – with additional instruction in math, writing, and study skills. Piedmont CASA provides trained volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children, promoting and supporting safe, permanent and nurturing homes for child victims before the courts of the 16th Judicial District of Virginia. Piedmont CASA promotes awareness about child abuse and neglect through community education and outreach. Annually, Piedmont CASA serves approximately 200 child victims of abuse and neglect ages 0 to 18.

Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) is a regional private non-profit organization with a mission to create housing and community development opportunities for very low to moderate income families and individuals, teach financial literacy and management, homebuying and home ownership skills, and advocate for affordable housing policies and programs.
• Over 700 families bought homes, through comprehensive housing counseling and access to low-cost financing. • $6 million in down payment assistance and $41 million in low-interest mortgages made the dream of home ownership an affordable reality. • 395 affordable rental units preserved, managed or assisted.

Rare Book School (RBS) provides continuing education for adult students from all walks of life to study the history of books and manu- scripts with leading scholars and profession- als. Offering week-long courses—from book- bindings and medieval manuscripts to fine prints and digital texts—RBS engages libra- rians, academics, book dealers, conservators, collectors, and amateurs in intensive, hands- on learning with original materials from its unparalleled collection and UVA’s Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. The Ron Brown Scholar Program was established in 1996 to provide academic scholarships, service opportunities and leadership experiences for young African Americans of outstanding promise. Scholars are provided with financial resources to attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. Scholars are each awarded $40,000 to be used at the college or university of their choice. Scholars are also provided with the nurturing and mentorship to succeed and flourish in college and beyond. The Program has a 100 percent graduation rate.
