Established in 1973, the Emergency Food Bank is an all-volunteer organization that provides a 3-day food supply to individuals and families in need. It serves residents of Charlottesville and Albemarle exclusively. The Emergency Food Bank works because it is simple in design: food that is donated or purchased with contributions is given directly to those in need on the same day they request it.

How the community can help: financially (direct donation, Combined Virginia Campaign, or through the Leave a Legacy Thomas Jefferson Area Program); coordinating food drives; donating food; volunteering.

Hospice of the Piedmont’s mission is to serve our community with hospice care within a continuum of services related to serious illness and loss with the highest level of integrity, skill, compassion and respect. Since 1980 the specially trained staff and volunteers at Hospice of the Piedmont have provided the residents of central Virginia the highest quality end of life care. Care and support of patients and their families takes place wherever the patient calls home.

This non-religious, nonprofit, public charity is constantly weaving a stronger safety net for patients and families at the UVA Medical Center in need of temporary assistance with lodging, food, travel, and co-pays.

IHS began with a simple objective: NO MORE children sleeping in cars with their hungry family as a loved one lingers in critical condition inside THIS hospital.

IHS is the rapid response charity when a social worker calls!

JABA’s mission is to help local elders feel secure about the place in which they live, whether that’s their family home of many years, an apartment they know they can afford, or an assisted living community dedicated to their comfort and care. We help families gain access to at-home services— such as healthcare management and home delivered meals —while offering assistance with financial literacy and Medicare decisions, even the creation of a will. We are dedicated to helping older adults age securely in place.
