GAMING Article by guest editor Elliot Leopold T

he second half of this year seems set to be filled with highly

anticipated releases by some of the largest game franchises in the industry. As expected Activision will be releasing its annual addition to the Call of Duty (COD) series in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, however

COD will have some serious competition in the first-person shooter genre this year

whether or not it will be able to surpass last year’s release Call of Duty: Black Ops which had a worldwide sales mark of over $1 billion in just 6 weeks, is yet to be seen, although it is already looking as polished as previous titles

in the series.

Nevertheless COD will have some serious competition in the first-person shooter genre this year as EA and DICE have finally completed work on Battlefield 3. Although Battlefield does not have an annual release date or the impressive sales figures of COD, it still promises to be a serious contender due to its outstanding reputation as a more realistic and varied shooter, due to it’s unique Frostbite 2.0 engine. Attributes that may appeal to gamers who have grown tired of COD’s overused and never-changing game engine that has amassed a reputation for hackers and “noob- tubers”.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

One of PlayStation’s most critically acclaimed exclusive titles is returning later this year as Drake attempts to

find the mythical “Atlantis of the Sands”, a city fabled to be made of gold. Videos and demos of the game released by the production studio Naughty Dog look absolutely stunning visually, as Drake goes globe-trotting once again to take the player to a variety of beautiful locations.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

The fourth game in the series finally sees the conclusion of Ezio’s magnificent trilogy, however Altair will be returning as a playable character to make a much more prominent part in this game, as Desmond jumps between the lives of his ancestors in an attempt to uncover the truth behind the elusive Templars and the legacy of The Pieces of Eden. The multiplayer element from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood will be included in this game as well.
